Description:

Provides transitional housing, shelter and resident advocacy services for victims of intimate partner violence and their children. Offers a hotline for support or information and referral to current or former victims of domestic violence. Weekly support groups. Non-resident advocacy services available for women/men/children (including assistance with the legal system). Drop-in services available in Providence. Teen violence prevention and education programs for the classroom, community, and workplace. Teen dating violence program, child advocacy, lesbian/gay advocacy program, and Latina advocacy program serves. Sojourner House s a member agency of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Emergency Shelter "Safe House"
4 bedrooms; occupancy of 9 to 11 people
One (1) handicapped accessible room

Services available:
All services are voluntary
Some staff is bilingual, English/Spanish - translation/interpretation available
Provide referrals to educational, vocational, and employment resources
Advocates meet individually with residents to establish goals
Provide child advocacy
Weekly support groups both in-house and community based
HIV testing

Meals:
Residents are responsible for their own family's food-kitchen and storage space is provided
Food assistance available if needed

Important Policies:
Location of shelter is confidential, residents are expected to maintain confidentiality
The building alarm is set from 10:00PM-6:00AM (residents are expected to be in house during these hours)
A maximum of 2 nights out/month, except in emergencies
No time limit as long as working on goals of permanent housing and following all shelter rules
Residents are responsible for their own medications-lockers are available; residents will have to lock up medications
Smoking allowed in designated outdoor areas
A harm reduction model is used-sobriety is not required, however residents are expected to respect peers in recovery
Bedrooms and common areas are shared
There may be a possibility teenage boys are housed

Evening calls will be automatically transferred to the statewide helpline. All incoming and outgoing calls appear as "blocked numbers" for safety and anonymity purposes. All calls are confidential.

                  ***Financial assistance, including rent and utilities, to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking who are fleeing abusive situations, at risk of becoming homeless or at risk of returning to their abuser as a result of COVID-19. Supportive services will also be provided, including expanded hotline hours, more clinical support, additional advocacy services and assistance with basic needs such as food and transportation.

                  Domestic and sexual violence and human trafficking support services at the Drop-In Advocacy and Resource Center. Services: Advocates available for consultation, support groups, organizational training or workshops (must call to schedule), volunteer opportunities, free HIV testing by oral swab (appointments recommended), Deliver donations (Please call first); find information on how to help someone you think may be experiencing abuse
