Description:

Safe, temporary domestic violence shelter for women and their children. Common rooms (kitchen, laundry etc. are not handi-cap accessible.)

Full range of support services including emotional support/education on domestic abuse and victimization; assistance with housing, financial, employment and legal needs.
-Court advocacy in Kent County and Cranston/Johnston, Foster Scituate and North Providence.
-Outreach program for victims not requiring shelter, including individual and group support meetings.
-Community education.
-Teen domestic violence counseling available and services for elderly victims.

-Transitional housing Program

(401) 738-1700 Crisis counseling at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a vital service that provides immediate support and assistance to individuals facing traumatic experiences. Trained counselors offer a safe and empathetic environment where survivors can express their feelings, fears, and concerns without judgment. These counselors are equipped with specialized knowledge to address the complex dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault, offering personalized guidance and resources tailored to each individual's needs. Crisis counseling aims to empower survivors by validating their experiences, helping them navigate the legal and medical systems, and connecting them with additional support services such as shelter, legal advocacy, and therapy. Through compassionate listening and validation, crisis counselors play a crucial role in helping survivors regain a sense of control, rebuild their lives, and ultimately break the cycle of abuse. The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center offers free crisis case management services that include: Assistance applying for the Rhode Island Crime Victim Compensation Fund Assessment of client’s needs and services Creating a safety plan for the client, providing crisis intervention, and any necessary outside referrals Assistance with obtaining temporary and permanent housing Advocating for clients to create sustainable goals for themselves and increase self-sufficiency Culturally competent and trauma informed services Assistance applying for Social Services, healthcare assistance and financial assistance, etc. Promote stability for the client and maintain a safe space for clients to process, understand, and overcome their interpersonal violence.

Description

Court Advocacy Court can be a confusing and frustrating experience for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center has an office on the third floor of the Kent County Court House to assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault with filing for Temporary Restraining Orders in the District or Family Court. The Court where you file will vary based on where you reside and your relationship to the person you are filing against. If you are coming in to file for a Protective Order you should make every effort to arrive by 2:30 PM so that you will have adequate time to fill out all of the paper work before Judges are off the bench. To make sure you should be filing in Kent County, please call the Court Office at (401) 822-6680. The Court Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-1:00 pm, the office is closed for lunch from 1:00-2:00 pm, and then reopens from 2:00-4:00 pm. The court advocates in this office also assist victims of domestic violence criminal cases in the Kent County District Court by: Explaining your rights as a victim of crime Explaining the court process and what you may expect
