An independent and autonomous Rhode Island state agency that advocates for children in the care of DCYF to ensure they are afforded adequate protection and quality services while maintaining their individual rights and dignity.

The legal office provides services for litigation, monitor placement facilities, review child fatalities, legislative advocacy, attendance at public hearings and conferences.

Services include: litigation, education; family court representation of children voluntarily placed in DCYF custody; investigation of institutional child abuse/neglect and child fatality reviews.
