Superior Court is comprised of twenty-two (22) judges and five (5) magistrates. It is the forum for jury and non-jury trials of both civil and criminal matters.

Description
Provides advocacy in court for the best interests of children who are the victims of abuse and/or neglect and are therefore involved with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and the Rhode Island Family Court. Staff includes attorney, guardians ad litem and Social Caseworkers. Program also trains volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Children who had been abused and/or neglected, and who, through no fault of their own, found themselves involved with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) and the Family Court. Volunteers must be 21 years of age and a United States citizen, have a valid driverâs license, and a willingness to travel throughout the state on CASA-related business. Able to complete 30 hours of comprehensive training, and devote approximately 8-10 hours per month to each case. Average caseload is 1-2.

Volunteer Opportunities:
A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer is a trained citizen appointed by the Chief Judge of the Rhode Island Family Court to represent the best interests of a child victim in cases of abuse and/or neglect.
Volunteers must be 21 years of age and a United States citizen, have a valid driver!s license, and a willingness to travel throughout the state on CASA-related business. Able to complete 30 hours of comprehensive training, and devote approximately 8-10 hours per month to each case. Average caseload is 1-2.
