Description:
Provides nutritious meals in a social setting for elderly (60+) and for handicapped persons under 60. Programs offered are Home Delivered Program, Capital City Cafes, Senior Restaurant, Senior Wish Program, and Pet Food Program. Designated by the Rhode Island Department of Elderly Affairs as the regional case management agency responsible in Providence for elderly abuse protective services, home and community care, home delivered meals assessments and social services. Description
Capital City Cafes Senior meal program that provides hot nutritious meals to seniors. The program has eight cafes in Providence and one location in Cranston. Transportation is available by contacting the RIDE Program 800-479-6902 or LogistiCare 855-330-9131.

Age 60 and older. If under 60, an approved wavier is required through DHS, PACE and NHPRI wavier programs. Must be unable to prepare nutritious meals due to a physical and/or psychological limitations. Must be homebound

Description
Restaurant Program for seniors started in 2007. Seniors are able to obtain a voucher to take to a participating restaurant in exchange for meal options provided by the restaurant.

Eligibility:
Home Delivered Program- 60+ years of age,or holding an approved waiver from eligible waiver programs (DHS, PACE, NHPRI); must be unable to prepare nutritious meals due to physical and/or psychological limitations; cannot participate in an adult day care, or dining program on a day they are scheduled to receive meals; must be homebound and unable to leave their home independently and/or has limited assistance leaving the home. A referral is required for special cirmstances. The referral may be submitted on-line

Senior restaurant- 60+years and have gotten a voucher prior to going to participating restaurant.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Meals on wheels depends on volunteers to provide it's services as cost effectively as possible. Opportunities include helping to manage/ work in Capital city cafes as well as delivering noon-time meals to homes Monday through Friday among other openings.
