Description:

Carries the basic responsibility for receiving, holding and disbursing the funds of the state; issues all general obligation notes and bonds; under the direction of the retirement board (serves as chairman), the General Treasurer is charged with the establishment and maintenance of such accounts and statistical records as the retirement board may require; maintains custody of unclaimed property; oversees the regulation and licensing of precious metals dealers and transient vendors.
Treasurer Magaziner serves on the board of the Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank, along with the State Investment Commission, the State Retirement Board, the Public Finance Management Board, the Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corporation, the Rhode Island Student Loan Authority and the Rhode Island School Building Authority. The Treasurer is also co-chair of the Rhode Island School Building Task Force.

Description

Provides financial compensation to crime victims and dependants of homicide victims for such expenses as medical bills, loss of earnings and funeral expenses, up to $25,000.

Eligibility

Victims who suffer personal, physical or emotional injury in a violent crime in Rhode Island Dependents and immediate family members of homicide victims. If you were under the age of 18 at the time of the crime, the application period is extended. You must cooperate with reasonable requests of law enforcement authorities in their investigation and prosecution of the crime. You must NOT have contributed to the crime. You must NOT have been convicted of a violent criminal felony. Must file a police report within 10 days of the alleged crime and file a claim with CVCP no later than three years after the crime.

Print, fill out and fax/mail in application found online, or fill out and submit online. Please respond promptly to all requests for additional information or documentation. In general, you will receive a decision in 6 months. You may request that your claim be reopened for future medical and mental health counseling expenses.
