Description

The Children’s Friend Child Care Program is designed to provide quality care and education to children ages three, four, and five. (Child Care at Dexter Street is available for children six weeks to five years of age.) Our goals are to foster a positive self-concept, develop social skills, promote language and physical development, encourage creative expression, and foster an awareness and respect of diverse cultures and values. Experienced and degreed teachers lead each classroom. Bilingual staff are always available to help support the center’s children and families. A registered nurse is available to provide support and answer parents’ health questions. Eligible families may use DHS child care vouchers. A nutritious breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack are provided, which have been approved by the Department of Education’s Child and Adult Care Food Program.*

Description

First Connections services high risk moms and their children from birth to age three. Families are identified through the birthing hospitals as high risk and in need of community support. The intent is to reach all new moms within seven days after delivery or within 24 hours if the mom is “High Priority” Pregnant women. Provides free support to expectant parents and families with children under 3 years in RI. Family visitors can answer any questions about newborn and infant care, infant feeding and nutrition, developmental screening, home safety, family well-being, and referral connection.

    Description

    Nurse-Family Partnership is a national evidence-based maternal and child home visiting service for expectant first-time mothers and their newborns. We pair expectant mothers with a registered nurse, who provides free, intensive home visiting services for the mother and her child until the child’s second birthday. To improve pregnancy outcomes by helping women engage in good preventive health practices To improve child health and development by helping parents provide responsible and competent care To improve the economic self-sufficiency of families by helping parents develop a vision for their own future, plan future pregnancies, continue their education, and find work.

      Description

      Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Feeding and Nutrition Program provides food vouchers, allowing them to purchase milk, eggs, cheese, juice and iron fortified cereals and formula. The WIC coordinator provides nutrition education and counseling to all program participants on a monthly basis.
