Community Action Partnership of Providence (CAPP), established in November of 2012, is a leading provider of social services in Providence, Rhode Island. The organization operates, promotes and supports the development of human service programs aimed at improving the lives of low-to-moderate income individuals and families living in Providence County. CAPP works to minimize poverty while empowering members of the community to be self-sufficient.

Description

Over 45,000 kids in Rhode Island don’t have access to clean, new underwear, socks or diapers. Project Undercover provides these necessities to families living in poverty by engaging with the community, increasing public awareness, and partnering with other agencies for the betterment of all children. CAPP is a proud partner of Project Undercover and serves Providence residents living in the 02905, 02907, 02908 and 02909 zip codes from our location at 807 Broad Street (Algonquin House).

Description

CAPP’s Food Pantry serves residents living in the 02905 and 02907 zip codes of Providence, RI. We serve hundreds of families each month. They provide proteins, vegetables, and non-perishable items when available. Residents must complete a member application before participating and re-certify each year. Beginning Wednesday, January 12th 2022, food distribution and pick up will run on an extended, biweekly schedule: Every other Wednesday from 11am-2pm and 4pm-6:30pm One-time emergency assistance is available - contact us to make an appointment.

Description

CAPP's VITA program offers free tax preparation to residents who make less than $60k/year. The VITA program's 1040 Team will prepare and e-file taxes to help residents keep 100% of what is owed to them. CAPP VITA starts Monday January 30th 2023 The VITA program runs from January 30th 2023 through April 18th 2023. Residents looking for assistance may walk-in without an appointment during VITA program hours for the initial intake process and to drop off required paperwork. To keep our staff and residents safe, we ask that residents wear a mask and maintain social distance while on site. Taxes are prepared remotely and filed electronically by IRS certified volunteers.

-Proof of identification – Picture ID -Social Security Cards for you, your spouse, and dependents or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration or -Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse, and dependents -Proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN -Birth dates for you, your spouse, and dependents on the tax return -Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-Misc from all employers -Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099) -A copy of last year’s federal and state returns if available -Proof of bank account routing numbers and account numbers for Direct Deposit, such as a blank check -Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider's tax identifying number (the provider's Social Security Number or the provider's business Employer Identification Number) if applicable -To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.

Earned $60,000 or less To qualify for Property Tax Relief Credit (please note it is total household size and total household income): An individual must be (all of the qualifiers below) - Elderly or disabled - Receive Social Security Benefits - Lived in RI for 12 months - Lived in an apartment or home subject to property tax. The person can receive up to $365.
