Community Action Partnership of Providence (CAPP), established in November of 2012, is a leading provider of social services in Providence, Rhode Island. The organization operates, promotes and supports the development of human service programs aimed at improving the lives of low-to-moderate income individuals and families living in Providence County. CAPP works to minimize poverty while empowering members of the community to be self-sufficient.

Description

They believe that our seniors have played a critical role in creating the history of their communities and towards the preservation of their families. They honor them by providing supportive services and programming to meet their needs. CAPP offers bilingual services and programming (virtual and in person) for income eligible seniors age 60+ -Individualized support and referrals -Well-rounded activities that promote health, wellness, creativity, and community -Catered meals (in person congregate and home delivery) -Interactive community outings -Participating seniors are also informed about and have direct access to a wide-range of CAPP services like Heating Assistance, Food Pantry, Tax Preparation and more! CAPP's Education & Job Development Department offers a range of weekly workshops designed to improve your relationship with money and overall financial well-being. Learn techniques to help you maximize your savings and gain control over your finances! They have a 12-part series. You can take these classes as you choose and in any order. If each of their 12-part series is completed, they can be combined to earn a Financial Literacy Certificate from CAPP.

Lead Safe Providence Program (LSPP), A State Certified Lead Inspector will conduct a comprehensive environmental lead paint inspection and healthy homes inspection to identify any lead or healthy housing hazards. The LSPP Resident Educator will conduct pre-intervention health surveys. The Lead Hazard Reduction Program provides: -Lead paint intervention at no cost to you to help prevent childhood lead poisoning and promote you and your family’s long-term health and wellness -They can further educate you on other resources for home safety such as LIHEAP and Weatherization programs and empower you to take advantage of these important resources! -Typical repairs may include new windows and doors, exterior painting, interior painting, siding

Description

The Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) is a program designed to help you build yourself into the advocate you’ve always dreamed of being. PLTI is a FREE 20-Week program that offers grandparents, parents, teens and adults, to become the people who lead in their communities. Through PLTI you will have the skills and tools to improve the lives of children, families and communities. This 20-Week intense program affords parents the opportunity to earn college credit at College Unbound. Every participant will build confidence, learn to understand government policy and design their own initiatives to promote change in Providence. Through their community project, all participants will experience what it is like to build, brand and brave their own ideas into a beneficial program, policy, or publication for the community. Everything we do is done in hope to have positive and lasting impact for our families. With support from local agencies, PLTI Alumni, and the Parent Leadership Program facilitators, each participant will have a dedicated team of individuals driven toward their success and ready to connect them with resources to promote self-sufficiency.

Adult training and certification programs help residents learn the skills they need for the jobs they want. CAPP offers two tracks: Bookkeeping and Customer Service. If you are looking to start a new career or set your small business ahead of the rest, Bookkeeping may be the right path for you! CAPP is proud to offer our Bookkeeping Certificate Program. You can learn a new skill or improve your existing skills. Learning basic accounting principles, such as the difference between cash flow and profit, can save your business from bankruptcy and/or increase opportunities for career advancement. Bookkeepers will always be in demand! • Enrollment is first come, first served • Thirteen week program, classes held twice weekly • Registration fee is $200 and covers all materials • GED or High School Diploma required. Upon completion of the program, participants receive a nationally recognized Public Bookkeeper Certification.

Description

LIHWAP is a temporary emergency program that can help eligible households and families afford water and wastewater services, providing a one-time payment that is paid directly to the utility company. LIHWAP is available through September 2023 or until the funds are exhausted. Residents must apply for and be approved for LIHEAP in order to access LIHWAP services.

Description

CAPP's VITA program offers free tax preparation to residents who make less than $60k/year. The VITA program's 1040 Team will prepare and e-file taxes to help residents keep 100% of what is owed to them. CAPP VITA starts Monday January 30th 2023 The VITA program runs from January 30th 2023 through April 18th 2023. Residents looking for assistance may walk-in without an appointment during VITA program hours for the initial intake process and to drop off required paperwork. To keep our staff and residents safe, we ask that residents wear a mask and maintain social distance while on site. Taxes are prepared remotely and filed electronically by IRS certified volunteers.

    Weatherization is designed to help low-income families reduce their energy burdens by making their homes more energy efficient.     Description

    The key purpose of the Youth Employment Program at CAPP is to provide Providence youth with a summer-long adventure that is more than just a job! They offer workshops, on-the-job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy, and opportunities to continue educational and social growth. They engage the unique talents and interests of the youth, developing their skills and competencies by providing them with positive adult role models and lessons about how to obtain and maintain employment. At CAPP, they learn to turn any job into an investment of time and effort into their future. Participants learn how to dress for an interview, conduct themselves professionally, honor time commitments and how to maximize on transferable skills. This program provides six weeks of entry-level work experience to youth between the ages of 14 to 24. Prospective applicants must meet other eligibility requirements and are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Selected participants work in variety of entry-level positions at community-based organizations and government agencies. Some placement examples include: assisting with clerical duties in local hospitals and libraries, serving lunch at a senior center, helping children at a daycare center, helping with clean up at local parks, & custodial assistant at museums. Trainings may include CPR certification, ServSafe certification, STEM, and more.

    Description

    The Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) is a program designed to help you build yourself into the advocate you’ve always dreamed of being. PLTI is a FREE 20-Week program that offers grandparents, parents, teens and adults, to become the people who lead in their communities. Through PLTI you will have the skills and tools to improve the lives of children, families and communities. This 20-Week intense program affords parents the opportunity to earn college credit at College Unbound. Every participant will build confidence, learn to understand government policy and design their own initiatives to promote change in Providence. Through their community project, all participants will experience what it is like to build, brand and brave their own ideas into a beneficial program, policy, or publication for the community. Everything we do is done in hope to have positive and lasting impact for our families. With support from local agencies, PLTI Alumni, and the Parent Leadership Program facilitators, each participant will have a dedicated team of individuals driven toward their success and ready to connect them with resources to promote self-sufficiency.

    Adult training and certification programs help residents learn the skills they need for the jobs they want. CAPP offers two tracks: Bookkeeping and Customer Service. If you are looking to start a new career or set your small business ahead of the rest, Bookkeeping may be the right path for you! CAPP is proud to offer our Bookkeeping Certificate Program. You can learn a new skill or improve your existing skills. Learning basic accounting principles, such as the difference between cash flow and profit, can save your business from bankruptcy and/or increase opportunities for career advancement. Bookkeepers will always be in demand! • Enrollment is first come, first served • Thirteen week program, classes held twice weekly • Registration fee is $200 and covers all materials • GED or High School Diploma required. Upon completion of the program, participants receive a nationally recognized Public Bookkeeper Certification.

    Description

    LIHWAP is a temporary emergency program that can help eligible households and families afford water and wastewater services, providing a one-time payment that is paid directly to the utility company. LIHWAP is available through September 2023 or until the funds are exhausted. Residents must apply for and be approved for LIHEAP in order to access LIHWAP services.

    Description

    CAPP's VITA program offers free tax preparation to residents who make less than $60k/year. The VITA program's 1040 Team will prepare and e-file taxes to help residents keep 100% of what is owed to them. CAPP VITA starts Monday January 30th 2023 The VITA program runs from January 30th 2023 through April 18th 2023. Residents looking for assistance may walk-in without an appointment during VITA program hours for the initial intake process and to drop off required paperwork. To keep our staff and residents safe, we ask that residents wear a mask and maintain social distance while on site. Taxes are prepared remotely and filed electronically by IRS certified volunteers.

      Weatherization is designed to help low-income families reduce their energy burdens by making their homes more energy efficient. Services may include, attic, wall and floor insulation as well as testing of all boilers/furnaces, gas cooking appliances and water heaters to ensure that they are all running efficiently and not producing any harmful carbon monoxide gases.

      Description

      The key purpose of the Youth Employment Program at CAPP is to provide Providence youth with a summer-long adventure that is more than just a job! They offer workshops, on-the-job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy, and opportunities to continue educational and social growth. They engage the unique talents and interests of the youth, developing their skills and competencies by providing them with positive adult role models and lessons about how to obtain and maintain employment. At CAPP, they learn to turn any job into an investment of time and effort into their future. Participants learn how to dress for an interview, conduct themselves professionally, honor time commitments and how to maximize on transferable skills. This program provides six weeks of entry-level work experience to youth between the ages of 14 to 24. Prospective applicants must meet other eligibility requirements and are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Selected participants work in variety of entry-level positions at community-based organizations and government agencies. Some placement examples include: assisting with clerical duties in local hospitals and libraries, serving lunch at a senior center, helping children at a daycare center, helping with clean up at local parks, & custodial assistant at museums. Trainings may include CPR certification, ServSafe certification, STEM, and more.
