Description:

Provides public bus transportation throughout the state. Maintains and operates buses, some with wheelchair lifts for handicapped persons. Publishes bus schedules. Issues identification cards for seniors and handicapped.

*** Low income persons with a disability or age 65 and above may ride free of charge with a RIPTA NO FARE ID PASS. All other persons age 65 and above or with a disability pay full fare during RIPTA peak hours of service (7:00AM - 9:00AM and 3:00PM - 6:00PM on weekdays) and pay 1/2 fare all other times upon presentation of a RIPTA Senior/Disabled ID Pass or a Medicare ID Card.     Description

    Paratransit service provided under ADA is available for an individual whose disability either prevents independent use of the fixed route system or prevents travel to or from bus stops. Under federal regulations, ADA Paratransit Service must operate within a 3/4-mile corridor on either side of a fixed route. ADA service operates during the same hours that the fixed route bus runs. All ADA trips must start and end in the corridor.

    Hours

    Operates during normal bus route times Ready-Time Window: Passengers are given a ready-time window instead of a set time. For example, you may be told that your pick up will be between 9:00 AM and 9:20 AM. The van is considered on-time if it arrives any time within this window.

    Intake Procedure

    Your eligibility must be determined before you can use this service. A completed application must be submitted and a decision will be made within approximately 21 days of receipt. Call or visit website for more information. To schedule a trip you must call one day in advance; Reservations are accepted: weekdays between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Saturdays between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, and Sundays via a voicemail message.

    Service Area

    Is offered at the same times and in the same location as the regular fixed-route service. If there is no fixed-route service, there is no comparable ADA service.

        Reduced Fare Bus Pass Program-Applications program must be submitted in person at RIPTA!€™s Photo Identification office. Printable versions of applications online. To have an application mailed to you, call the Photo ID office. All completed applications must be presented in person at Photo ID office locations during operating hours.

        Program Fees:

        Photo Identifications: New customer $10, Renewal customer $10, Replacement cards $20 (Replacement cards are lost, stolen or damaged cards.)
