Ice Dancing Competitions

Taxonomy Code: PL-8000.1900-330

Figure skating competitions for men and women who skate together as partners and perform choreographed routines similar to ballroom dances. Skaters generally perform two compulsory dances with closely prescribed rhythms and steps; an original set pattern dance in which the skaters are given a set rhythm and asked to perform an original version of the dance; and a free dance which allows the skaters to demonstrate their technical skills and artistry to music they have selected. Ice dancing is similar to pairs skating, but does not incorporate overhead lifts, throw jumps, spins and other athletic moves associated with that discipline, and focuses more on rhythm, timing, interpretation of the music and the precision of each move. Included are organizations that sponsor, organize, hold, promote, sell tickets to and publicize the events; provide information about competition schedules; and/or maintain information about current standings.
