                      Description

A Medicare Advantage is another way to get your Medicare Part A and Part B coverage. Medicare Advantage Plans, sometimes called "Part C" or "MA Plans," are offered by Medicare-approved private companies that must follow rules set by Medicare. If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan, you'll still have Medicare but you'll get most of your Part A and Part B coverage from your Medicare Advantage Plan, not Original Medicare. These "bundled" plans include Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance), and usually Medicare drug coverage (Part D). Most of them usually offer extra benefits. With a Medicare Advantage Plan, you may have coverage for things Original Medicare doesn't cover, like fitness programs (gym memberships or discounts) and some vision, hearing, and dental services (like routine check ups or cleanings). Plans can also choose to cover even more benefits. For example, some plans may offer coverage for services like transportation to doctor visits, over-the-counter drugs, and services that promote your health and wellness. Plans can also tailor their benefit packages to offer these benefits to certain chronically-ill enrollees. These packages will provide benefits customized to treat specific conditions. Check with the plan before you enroll to see what benefits it offers, if you might qualify, and if there are any limitations. The SHIP counselor can provide you with unbiased information in order for you to make an informative decision and help you enroll in the plan of your choice.

                        Description

Congress created the Medicare program, which began in 1965. The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services or CMS administers the Medicare program. Medicare was not designed to pay 100% of all medical bills of the member. When someone qualifies for Medicare the enrollment process starts automatically (on a case by case basis) by Social Security Administration in connection with CMS. If this does not happens automatically, the individual can get enrolled by contacting Social Security Administration directly to start the process. Medicare consists of four parts. These parts are called Part A known as hospital insurance, Part B which is the Medical insurance, Part C known as Medicare Advantage, and Part D a stand-alone prescription drug coverage. Medicare members have the option of choosing a non-Medicare plan which is known as a Supplemental Insurance, often called Medigap. You can meet with them for an unbiased session of counseling and learn about all of your options to make an informative decision.

Home Care We all need a little help sometimes. Home care services help people age strong in the community, connecting them with in-home supports, adult day health programming, and/or assisted living services. For older adults with care needs, the @Home Cost-Share program is available to help with some care expenses. Eligible participants can access in-home services – such as help with housekeeping, meal preparation or personal care – and/or community-based programming at adult day health centers at a reduced rate. You may be eligible for the program if you are age 65 or older, meet income guidelines, and need some assistance in the home with your personal or health care. To learn more about the @Home program, contact the Point.
