Description
The Childrenâs Friend Child Care Program is designed to provide quality care and education to children ages three, four, and five. (Child Care at Dexter Street is available for children six weeks to five years of age.) Our goals are to foster a positive self-concept, develop social skills, promote language and physical development, encourage creative expression, and foster an awareness and respect of diverse cultures and values. Experienced and degreed teachers lead each classroom. Bilingual staff are always available to help support the centerâs children and families. A registered nurse is available to provide support and answer parentsâ health questions. Eligible families may use DHS child care vouchers. A nutritious breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack are provided, which have been approved by the Department of Educationâs Child and Adult Care Food Program.*

Head Start is a Federal program that promotes the school readiness of children from birth to age five from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Head Start programs provide a learning environment that supports children's growth in many areas such as language, literacy, and social and emotional development. Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child's first and most important teacher. These programs help build relationships with families that support family well-being and many other important areas.

Our Pre K classrooms offer high quality educational opportunities for children who are 4 years old by September 1st. Our classrooms are often bilingual and our staff is both experienced and degreed. We provide a wraparound approach to support both the child and family and the classrooms provide opportunities to ready children for their upcoming year of kindergarten. Nutritious meals are offered at both breakfast and lunch. Children are chosen for the program by entering into the Rhode Island State Pre K lottery.
