Comprehensive Community Action Program

Description:

In December of 1965, Cranston Community Action Program was incorporated. At that time CCAP served Cranston, Coventry, Scituate and Foster. As many of our programs grew to include cities and towns outside that catchment area, they decided to change their name. In September of 1994 we officially became Comprehensive Community Action, but still CCAP.

CCAP is one of Rhode Island's largest organizations dedicated solely to fighting the war on poverty. Their professional staff provides a wide spectrum of services designed to help those in immediate need and empower anyone desiring to become more self-sufficient. They want to empower all people and communities, challenged by poverty as well as social and cultural barriers, through advocacy, education, and access to high quality health and human services.

Services they provide include: family health services (medical, dental, behavioral health and WIC) , family development (case management and care coordination), Child Development (Head Start and child care for children birth to 5 years old), youth education and job training (work readiness and job placement for youth 14-24), Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA; income-eligible individuals can get help filing their taxes); and social service programs (fuel and rental assistance, weatherization and LeadSafe, financial education, affordable housing, food bank and more).

    Description

At CCAP their goal is to reduce the cost for low-income households, elderly, families and people with disabilities by improving the energy of their homes while assuring their health and safety. The United States Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) was created in 1976 to assist low-income families. WAP is operated in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and in Native American tribes. Description

At CCAP, their goal is to reduce the cost for low-income households, elderly, families and people with disabilities by improving the energy of their homes while assuring their health and safety. The United States Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) was created in 1976 to assist low-income families. WAP is operated in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and in Native American tribes. Funds are used to improve the energy efficiency of low-income homes using the most advanced technologies and testing protocols available in the housing industry. The energy conservation resulting from the efforts of state and local agencies helps our country reduce its dependency on foreign oil and decreases the cost of energy for families in need while improving the health and safety of their homes. Some of the benefits to the home would be: -Insulate walls, attic and basement -Wrap pipes, weather stripping around doors, caulk and seal windows -Check for proper ventilation -Install smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors -Check for gas leaks -Evaluate the heating system
