    Description

    Hospital charity care requirements cover those essential services necessary to diagnose, correct, or cure a medical condition that endangers life, causes pain and suffering, results in illness or infirmity, or causes a physical deformity or malfunction. Both inpatient and outpatient services are included. To receive full charity care, patients annual family income must be up to and including 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. For partial charity care, patients annual family income must be between 200% and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level may receive assistance based on a sliding scale. In addition to income, hospitals have the option to consider other assets. Also must be denied from Medicaid first depending on income. Evaluates and follows children, birth to 18 years of age, with diagnosed metabolic disease. Physician referral required. A copy of the patient's history, physical exam and lab tests should accompany the patient to the initial visit. Include growth data where available. **Pediatric Endocrine, 444-4609 Hours: 9am-5pm Services: Comprehensive evaluation and follow-up care of patients, birth to 18 years of age with endocrine disorders of childhood and adolescence. Physician referral required. Past medical records, x-rays and growth data are essential to initial evaluation. **Pediatric Gastroenterology, 444-8306, for new referrals Hours: 9am-4:30pm, Tu and Th; 10am-3pm, Fri Services: Provides diagnostic evaluation, follow-up and/or consultation for children with chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease and various other complaints of the gastrointestinal tract. Physician referral required. **Pediatric Hemostasis, 444-8250 Hours: 8am-4:30pm, Mon-Fri Services: Provides diagnostic evaluation and episodic treatment to hemophiliacs and other patients with abnormalities in blood clotting factors. A multi-disciplinary clinic intended to provide continuing supervision for all medical/social aspects of the patient with Hemophilia. Team includes a Nurse Coordinator, Social Worker, Dentist, Orthopedic Surgeon, Physical Therapist and Hematologist.

        Description

        Hospital charity care requirements cover those essential services necessary to diagnose, correct, or cure a medical condition that endangers life, causes pain and suffering, results in illness or infirmity, or causes a physical deformity or malfunction. Both inpatient and outpatient services are included. To receive full charity care, patients annual family income must be up to and including 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. For partial charity care, patients annual family income must be between 200% and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level may receive assistance based on a sliding scale. In addition to income, hospitals have the option to consider other assets. Also must be denied from Medicaid first depending on income. Patients who get accepted will receive financial aid for a year. **For patients who feel that an application or appeal was wrongfully denied should call the RI Dept of Health info line 222-5960.
