Description

The Village Common of Rhode Island (TVCRI) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven membership organization that aims to support older adults who wish to age in their home via a network of local villages - communities of mutual support - in Rhode Island. We currently have villages in Aquidneck Island, Barrington, Bristol-Warren, Burrillville, Cumberland, Edgewood, Glocester, Jamestown, Providence, Warwick, and Westerly. Villages are in development in East Greenwich, Exeter, and Richmond-Hopkinton. Our volunteers assist members in a myriad of ways, from driving to medical appointments and running errands, to doing light household maintenance and minor repairs, to providing technology support for TVs, phones and computers, to making friendly calls and visits. TVCRI and its local villages host an array of social and educational We create opportunities to get together, make friends, and enjoy activities such as these: Outings to museums, movies, concerts, and lectures. Gatherings for picnics, walks, and potlucks. Calls and visits from village members (at a member's request). Interest groups around whatever members love: books, gardening, crafts, theatre, movies, and more. Neighborhood Circles that connect members who live near one another. Calendar of local educational, cultural and entertainment activities.

MEMBERSHIP DUES Individual Household: $40 a month/ $480 a year, $25 a month/ $300 a year, $10 a month / $120 a year; Dual Household $60 a month/$720 a year, $40 a month/ $480 a year, $15 a month/ $180 a year

Description

The Village Common and its local villages foster a strong sense of “neighbors helping neighbors”. You do not need to be a member to volunteer and you do not need to volunteer in order to be a member. As a volunteer, you decide when, where and how often you volunteer and the types of volunteer opportunities in which you want to participate. Here are some of the ways you can volunteer: Providing rides to members Running errands Household chores and light maintenance Providing technology support for TVs, phones and computers Planning health and wellness programs Providing support in the office Planning social, educational and cultural activities Work on our newsletter, website and social media Help with fundraising Serving on committees and teams And many more All volunteers receive background checks and training.
