Description:

It is the mission of the DaVinci Center to improve the quality of life for the residents in the North End of Providence by providing, or helping to bring about, a broad array of quality services and neighborhood improvement projects that respond to the needs of the community.

The Education Department can help you reach your educational goals whether you are in middle school, high school, or thinking of taking college courses.

The DaVinci Center offers case management to residents of all ages who live in the North End of Providence. Referrals are made when special needs are called for.

The DaVinci Center has contracted with the Social Security Administration to assist beneficiaries of SSI and SSDI residing in Rhode Island to obtain gainful paid employment. SSI and SSDI recipients have disabilities that make it difficult for them to obtain employment. Under the Ticket to Work Program, The DaVinci Center is prepared to offer these recipients whatever services they require that will enable them to find suitable paid jobs. These services include a comprehensive assessment; drafting of resumes and cover letters; job readiness skills; job search activities and job retention services.

In collaboration with Visiting Nursing Association of Greater Rhode Island, an on-site Health Clinic has been established with the Center. Health lectures and specialized health screenings are held frequently for the general public.

Our program strongly emphasizes enhancing basic literacy, numeracy, and necessary skills, empowering adults to pursue further education, secure employment, and thrive daily. Program highlights Individual tutoring is available by appointment on Tuesdays and Fridays. By participating, individuals can significantly enhance their desirability to potential employers while fostering: Educational Advancement, Workforce Preparedness, Personal Growth, Skill Improvement. English and Second Language Classes: ESL classes provide a step by step approach, allowing non-English speakers to gradually apply their skills to new challenges in each session and develop writing and speaking skills in the language. Understanding a language and becoming proficient in its use is essential to living successfully in a culture. Imagine how difficult it would be to do even the mundane things like shopping, banking, paying bills, and navigating a transportation system if you couldn't speak the language. During an ESL class, students are engaged in a series of activities and exercises that act as building blocks. Step by step, non English speakers apply the skills in previous classes to the challenges in each session. High School Equivalency Tutoring- The primary goal of the High School Equivalency (HSE) Tutoring program is to deliver structured academic support and guidance to individuals preparing to earn their high school equivalency certificate. Our classes will prepare you to take Rhode Island's General Equivalency Exams. Classes are held in the evenings to accommodate working adults. Classes are held in English, and individual tutoring is available. Self Enrichment Courses- These courses offer opportunities for personal exploration, skill development, and social interaction. We cater to individuals of all ages and backgrounds motivated by curiosity, personal growth, and a desire to expand their horizons. We offer a variety of self-enrichment courses throughout the year, including art, yoga, breathing, and much more! Self Enrichment Training- The DaVinci Center serves as a resource hub for A-Venture High School, providing access to expert guidance, mentorship opportunities, and specialized workshops. These resources enrich the educational experience by connecting classroom learning with real-world challenges and solutions. Students benefit from exposure to diverse perspectives and better understand their role as active, responsible citizens.

    You are asked to give a free-will offering at a suggested $3.00 per meal or whatever is affordable for you.

    Intake Procedure

    They ask that you do the following: Call in your reservation at least 24 hours ahead of time. If at all possible, give us your reservations for the whole week ahead. Tell them your choice on the menu of regular meal or sandwich. Please call in your cancellations also since we do not want to have waste and also because we may be able to accommodate a person on the waiting list for the meal on that day.

    Description

    The Education Department can help you reach your educational goals whether you are in middle school,high school, or thinking of taking college courses. High School Equivalency(GED) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Tutoring is available upon request and the ability to match a tutor with the students needs. A dropout prevention program is available for students that are in jeopardy of dropping out of school. A case management approach addresses family as well as student needs. If you have not finished high school, you can prepare yourself to take the General Education Development Test (GED) by taking Pre-GED or GED Classes at the Center. If you need to work on your English reading, writing, or language skills, you can also take an English for speakers of other languages (ESOL). There is also an accredited college course you can take at the Center if you are considering a college degree. Several personal enrichment courses are also held during the year. Special classes such as Italian, Art, Line Dancing are offered periodically.

    Senior Citizens If you are in need of assistance, a Community Elder Information Specialist provided by the Rhode Island Division of Aging is available for an appointment at the Center, or by a home visit (if required). All Health Care services are available to you if you are 65 years or older, and are covered by insurance or are a private pay patient. Health Consultant Services and Nutritional Evaluations are FREE and open to ALL AGES. Our Basic Needs Assistance program is designed to provide critical support and services to address the essential needs of our community members. Basic Needs Assistance involves providing immediate and essential support to individuals and families struggling to meet their basic needs. Includes: Food Assistance: Access to nutritious food through food pantries, meal programs, and emergency food supplies. Healthcare access- Support accessing medical care, health services, and health insurance assistance Financial Aid: Temporary financial support for utility bills, rent, and other essential expenses. Educational Resources: Access to educational materials, tutoring, and other learning support services. Social Services: Connection to community resources, counseling, services, and other forms of social support.

    Description

    Ticket to Work Program- The Ticket to Work program is a voluntary program provided by Social Security. It is designed to assist individuals between the ages of 18-64 who are currently receiving Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security Income and are interested in entering or re-entering the workforce. Participants will receive support as they work towards financial independence. If you progress towards your employment goal, Social Security will not reassess your disability status. Additionally, you can maintain access to cash benefits and Medicare/ Medicaid health care coverage as you transition to full-time work. If you find that you can no longer work due to your disability, you may be eligible to resume receiving benefits.

      Description

      The Education Department can help you reach your educational goals whether you are in middle school,high school, or thinking of taking college courses. High School Equivalency(GED) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Tutoring is available upon request and the ability to match a tutor with the students needs. A dropout prevention program is available for students that are in jeopardy of dropping out of school. A case management approach addresses family as well as student needs. If you have not finished high school, you can prepare yourself to take the General Education Development Test (GED) by taking Pre-GED or GED Classes at the Center. If you need to work on your English reading, writing, or language skills, you can also take an English for speakers of other languages (ESOL). There is also an accredited college course you can take at the Center if you are considering a college degree. Several personal enrichment courses are also held during the year. Special classes such as Italian, Art, Line Dancing are offered periodically.

      Join the DaVinci Center and embark on a journey to better health and happiness with our tailored physical recreation and fitness program! Our program is designed for seniors and families, focusing on gentle yet effective exercises promoting strength, flexibility, and overall well-being. At the DaVinci Center, you'll find a warm and welcoming atmosphere where community support is at the heart of everything we do. From low-impact workouts to relaxing yoga sessions, we offer activities that cater to all ages and fitness levels. Move it Monday- Join us for a weekly walk! Take in the fresh air, exercise, and work up an appetite for lunch. This class is on Monday at 11:30am. Yoga- Join us for a weekly yoga and breathing class. Relieve stress, build flexibility and strength, and have fun. Start Thursday, 2:00pm-4:00pm.

      Senior Citizens If you are in need of assistance, a Community Elder Information Specialist provided by the Rhode Island Division of Aging is available for an appointment at the Center, or by a home visit (if required). All Health Care services are available to you if you are 65 years or older, and are covered by insurance or are a private pay patient. Health Consultant Services and Nutritional Evaluations are FREE and open to ALL AGES. Our Basic Needs Assistance program is designed to provide critical support and services to address the essential needs of our community members. Basic Needs Assistance involves providing immediate and essential support to individuals and families struggling to meet their basic needs. Includes: Food Assistance: Access to nutritious food through food pantries, meal programs, and emergency food supplies. Healthcare access- Support accessing medical care, health services, and health insurance assistance Financial Aid: Temporary financial support for utility bills, rent, and other essential expenses. Educational Resources: Access to educational materials, tutoring, and other learning support services. Social Services: Connection to community resources, counseling, services, and other forms of social support.

      Description

      Ticket to Work Program- The Ticket to Work program is a voluntary program provided by Social Security. It is designed to assist individuals between the ages of 18-64 who are currently receiving Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security Income and are interested in entering or re-entering the workforce. Participants will receive support as they work towards financial independence. If you progress towards your employment goal, Social Security will not reassess your disability status. Additionally, you can maintain access to cash benefits and Medicare/ Medicaid health care coverage as you transition to full-time work. If you find that you can no longer work due to your disability, you may be eligible to resume receiving benefits.
