Rhode Island Housing is one of 26 RI Public Housing Authorities that funds and administers over 20 programs in smaller towns throughout Rhode Island to help low and moderate income Rhode Islanders buy, rent or find shelter in safe, decent and affordable housing.
RI Housing has issued over 47,000 mortgages to first time home buyers among consumer programs. RI Housing also oversees the management of 13,000 of subsidized rental housing for low income individuals.

Mortgage Programs-First-time homebuyer loans, Home buyer renovation loans/203 (k), 15kDPA, FirstGenHomeRI Homebuyer Education: Free Online 'live' Virtual class, Online 'on demand classes, Federal Housing administration 203k homebuyer education. Owner- Homeowner Programs- Community Lending Programs-The Program provides financial assistance to eligible homeowners to remediate their property for lead. Either homeowner or tenan can initiate the remediation process. Septic/Sewer- Rhode Island Homeowners may have cesspools, substandard septic systems or are required to tie-in to existing sewer lines. Access Independence- Loans of up to $50,000 are available for families and caregivers of people with developmental disabilities for home modification. Homeowner Assistance, Extra Assistance, Move and Refinance Loans, Existing Customers, Landlords.

Renter: Renter Programs: Rent Relief RI program will be closing to new applications on June 1, 2022. Voucher Programs-also referred to as Section 8 Rental Assistance, the Housing Choice Voucher Program is the federal government's major program for helping eligible households rent safe, healthy and affordable homes by paying some or all of a voucher holder's rental costs. Project Based Voucher Program- The Project Based Voucher Program provides low-and moderate-income households with monthly rental assistance. However, this assistance is tied to particular units rather than to the tenant. Project Based Rental Assistance- Also known as Section 8 Subsidized Apartments, these developments offer federally susidized units to serve the needs of various populations. Centralized Waitlist- to get on the waitlist you must apply for the waitlist in the Wait List Portal, contact 844-459-3600.
