English as a Second Language Classes: currently there are two English as a Second Language (ESL) offered classes at Blessed Sacrament Church 239 Regent Avenue, Providence, R.I. The class times and schedules vary depending on the class, some are held during the day and others in the evenings. The Immigration and Refugee Services also assist many refugee clients who have children. Their children are enrolled in school but need extra help reading, writing and speaking English in order to keep up with their school work. Refugee student tutors set up a schedule with the parents of the student to tutor the child or children twice a week after school for an hour or two each session at the student’s home.

The Diocese of Providence's Social Ministry Office develops, implements, and supports ministries and services that reach thousands of Rhode Islanders each year. Rooted in the social teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, this secretariat focuses on the dignity of each human being, serving others and dispensing charity while educating and advocating for justice. Through this office, support is provided to the 150 parishes in RI by helping parishioners meet their basic and social service needs. In every service provided, this ministry aims to reflect the compassion of Jesus Christ through sensitivity to the ever-changing ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of communities within the diocese. The Social Ministry Secretariat brings the message of Christ's love to the people of Rhode Island in tangible ways. These offices provide resources to communities in the areas of family, the sanctity of life, immigration, emergency assistance, and so much more. This secretariat seeks to meet the physical and spiritual needs of parishioners and neighbors while always addressing injustice and advocating for legislative change at the local and national levels.
